Tonight after everyone had gone home, I took a movie of what our classroom looks like. So people all over the world can see what we have been doing.
Tomorrow we will take another one with Room 3 learning.

I pod touch

Check out this crazy programme I found on the Ipod.
We will all be learning to use it over the next few weeks. It is called Comic Touch and is similar to Comic Life that we have used on the computer.

Sand Pit sentences

We are learning to use pages on the Mac to put photos and write sentences about the photo.

We have been doing some amazing writing about Lions during writing time.
We have made these into an information report.
They are all up in the classroom.

Maori Language Week

This week is Maori Language Week.
During the week we will be learning some new phrases and things to say in Maori.

Volcano

After writing all about volcanoes a few weeks ago we decided to have our own volcano.
Here are the pctures of our volcano erupting. Even though our volcano was a very strange colour. The lava looked good.

We were all very excited to be able to use the sand pit for the first time.

Sand Pit

We have been watching the sand pit being made over the last month. It is nearly ready. We went to check out the progress today and used our new ipod touch to take the photos.

Taking Risks

This afternoon we thought about all the different things we do that involves taking a sensible risk.
These are some of the ideas that we came up with.

Handwriting

We have been working really hard with our handwriting.
We spend time concentrating on how to form our letters properly and making it as neat as possible.

Take Risks

This topic we are learning to take risks.
We are learning to take responsible and safe risks in our everyday life.

So think about what you can do to take responsible risks.

Jump Rope for Heart

Yesterday morning we all completed Jump Rope for Heart. We tried to do as many skips as possible to raise money for the Heart Foundation.

Unfortunately due to the rain we had to cancel Jump Rope for Heart today.
Though this does give us some more time to practice our skipping.
We will hopefully be able to do it next Friday instead.

Feijoa Baking

Today was our Feijoa baking day.
We worked well in our groups to make our different recipes.
We really liked some of the recipes and we didn't really like other ones, but we all had fun making and tasting them.
The favourite one at the end of the day was Feijoa and Chocolate Cake and 2nd was the Feijoa Ice Cream. Everyone tried a little bit of everything.

Feijoas- Group Work

Today we have been working in our works finding out what ingredients we need for our Feijoa recipes, what equipment we need and what jobs we are going to have in our groups.
Some of us found working in a group quite hard work so we decided that we would have group leaders. Our group leaders need to be responsible, to talk to people kindly, to tell people what they want to them do, to share jobs so everyone has something to do and lead people. So we are going to have a think about it over night, if we think we can be a good group leader.

Feijoa's

Today Miss Billyard asked us to help solve her problem.

She has lots and lots of Feijoa's in her garden but doesn't like eating them as a piece of fruit. She wants us to come up with an idea of something else to make with the Feijoa's to make them more delicious.

So in our groups we did a brainstorm of different ideas of what we could make.
Here are some of our ideas:

Visit to the Marae

Today the Junior Jets and some of the Senior Stars went to the Marae.
We were welcomed into the Marae and listened to the Powhiri, which is the welcome.

We had to make sure we took our shoes off and used our best manners to listen. We also sang our Waiata. We then washed our hands and then our Kai was blessed before we ate it.

We are going back next week for different activities.

Waituhi joined us in Room 3 last week.
She used to be in Room 21 last year and has returned back to LSS for Term 2.

Dylan Elise

Yesterday we had Dylan Elise the Drummer come to visit our school.
He did a wonderful performance teaching a little about the different names of the drums and showing us the sounds of some of them. His sister joined in the fun on her bass guitar as well. Luckily there was a camera to show us exactly what he was doing on the drums, it was a great show.

Welcome Back to Term 2!

Welcome back for another busy term!
Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and it was great to see everyone after my long trip back to the UK.
This term we going to visit the Marae in Week 4 and 5 - so we need to get practising our Waitia ready to sing. We will then be changing topics around Week 5 to a Science based topic looking at Taking Risks.
We will continue to work hard with our Reading, Writing and Maths and I have already seen some wonderful work this term!
